MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGING PARTNER
M – Maturing
Previously we introduced you to the diamond model and in this edition we are going to look at the fourth stage, namely Maturing the business with an emphasis on establishing controls, systems and methodologies.
The business is growing. Your business in now in the middle of the diamond model of growth. In this stage you focus on controls. Putting things in place, making sure you develop the correct policies and procedures and that you follow them vigilantly. Your business is now big enough to start negotiation. You purchase enough to negotiate a lower rate from suppliers, and therefore offering your customers better rates. You need to focus on market research and finding out how to attract new customers
Management is professionalized in order to deal with the size and complexity of the customer base or the organizational structure of the business. In the maturing stage management shifts its focus to planning and control, and establishing systems, as well assimilating new people. From an investment perspective the focus shifts to developing a finance strategy. Employees are battling between the ideas of professional focus and freedom. Finances now come from structured sources and specialist schemes. Marketing now focuses on customer and market research. Bespoke systems are also purchased or developed for a competitive IT advantage. Multiple supplier management and terms negotiation are the focus of supplier management.
