This year started with the oil price falling below the US$ 50/bbl mark, which will provide a much needed reprieve in the short term, however export prices remain depressed. Our neighbours to the south’s economy is continued to be plagued by structural constraints on electricity supply, transport infrastructure and labour productivity. RMB forecast mild rand gains with 2015 year end targets 11.00 on USD/ZAR and 12.65 on EUR/ZAR, and risks to their view are biased towards significant rand weakness. RMB further expect core inflation rate to moderate from 6% in 1Q15 to 4% end 2015, with the repo rate to peak at 6.25 in 2016.
It would be an interesting future article to investigate what Namibian Economists would reveal should the Namibian Dollar delink from the ZAR, and become free floating, as what was done with the Swiss Frank in January 2015, or link to the US$.
My partners and I look forward to our continued working relations in 2015 to our mutual benefit and trust that you will receive BDO committed services and advise that will exceed your expectations.
