FAQ
- What are the current individual tax rates in Namiba?
- Individuals pay tax on a sliding scale, with rates between 27 % for the lowest bracket (annual income > than N$ 40 001) and 37 % for the highest income earners (annual income > than N$ 750 000)
- I am a non-resident, but am currently doing work for my employer in Namibia. Am I liable for tax in Namibia?
- Namibia’s income tax regime is source based, not residence based, and therefore you are likely to be liable for taxation. However, the answer depends on your personal circumstance and you are advised to contact a BDO expert for more detailed advice.
- What is the difference between VAT and import VAT?
- Normal VAT is levied on all taxable activities in Namibia at a rate of 15 %, and is payable to Revenue authorities every 2nd month on the 25th of the month. Import VAT is levied only on the import of goods at services at a rate of 15 % plus an upliftment factor of 10 %. Import VAT is payable monthly on the 20th of the month.
- Am I liable to register as an employer?
- Any entity or person who employs staff is liable to register as an Employer for Employee Tax, as well as for Social Security and Workmens’ Compensation. Failure to do so may result in penalties.
- I am not familiar with taxation in Namiba. How will I know how much to deduct / pay over to Revenue?
